Malang incense souvenirs are easiest to choose when you start with the person receiving them. Coffee or fruit scents suit beginners, while sandalwood and agarwood sit closer to prayer use. In Malang, the most widely reported maker is Dupalo, which sells sticks, powder and cones.

Why consider Malang incense souvenirs?

Malang is better known for apples and chips, but the city also has incense makers. Jawa Pos recorded 52 Dupalo scents in 2024, with orders from Central Java and Bali. So incense can make an unusual gift from the city.

Malang incense souvenirs also need no refrigeration, which makes them easier to carry than fresh food. In addition, some packs fit neatly into a suitcase. However, incense isn't a gift for everyone, because the smoke can bother some people.

See the Dupalo profile if you'd like to know more about the maker.

If you're unsure, start with our grouped list of scents, then ask one question: do they usually burn incense at home? The answer is often more useful than guessing their taste.

What should you budget for Malang incense souvenirs?

Your budget for Malang incense souvenirs depends on the pack size. The Malang city government reported Rp18,000 to Rp360,000 per pack in 2022, so that range is now old. Meanwhile, ten products at the Dupalo Pusat store ranged from Rp47,250 to Rp94,500 when we checked on 3 November 2026.

Other Shopee sellers can charge more for products with the same name. So compare our Dupalo price table before you pay. Check the weight as well, because some products weigh 504 grams and are too large for a small gift.

Where to buy in Malang and online

Reports describe two routes. First, Medcom.id gave a location in 2021 at Jalan Terusan Sigura-gura, Blok D No. 166 A, Karangbesuki, Sukun. However, that address comes from an old report and we haven't confirmed opening hours, so contact the seller before you go.

Second, the city government mentions sales through Tokopedia and Shopee. This route works well if you're already home and want to ship straight to the recipient. Still, check the store name carefully, because many sellers use the same product names.

How to fly with Malang incense souvenirs

We found no official Indonesian airline rule that deals specifically with incense. So ask your airline before you leave, especially on international flights.

The sources we did find disagree. One travel blog says solid incense is generally allowed in both carry-on and checked bags, and it quotes AskTSA on liquid incense. However, the same blog includes a United Airlines reply refusing incense sticks on a New Delhi to Dulles flight.

These steps can reduce problems:

  • Keep the incense in its original pack so staff can identify it.
  • Put it in checked baggage if your airline allows it.
  • Protect sticks with a hard box so they don't snap.
  • Wrap it away from clothes, because the scent can transfer.
  • Check your destination's rules on wood and plant products.

Before you give incense as a gift

Before you give Malang incense souvenirs, ask whether the person is comfortable with the smoke. Some families also link incense with particular beliefs, so the gift may not feel right to them.

Health matters too. Incense smoke contains fine particles, so it's a poor gift for someone with breathing problems. Read our guide to incense smoke to learn how to use it more safely.

Editorial note

Dupa Incense is run by a Dupalo partner, so we have an interest in the maker discussed here. We also haven't tested these scents, so the suggestions above don't come from burn tests. The photos here are illustrations, not Dupalo product photos. If a price or address has changed, follow the seller's latest information.
